The theme of the first piece is presented straight away as a solo plaintive voice in a march like rhythm. The second work of the cycle is one of Schubert's most famous works\, combining virtuosity and drama\, from the lyrical and floating opening theme to a contrasting Hungarian Gypsy Dance. The fourth and final Impromptu forms a wonderful conclusion of the set\, starting with a scintillating cascade of arpeggios\, contrasted with a dramatic and passionate middle section. This is followed by Liszt's Sonetto 104 del Petrarca\, based on the poet’s Sonnet Pace non trovo\, in which Petrarca declares his undying love for Laura de Noves\, a woman he only met once. The recital concludes with two Spanish works\, beginning with Granados’ Quejas\, o La Maja y el ruiseñor from his Goyescas suite\, which was inspired by the fascinating admiration that composer had for the art of the romantic painter and printmaker Francisco Goya. The final piece\, de Falla’s Fantasia Baetica offers imaginary soundscapes of Baetis\, the old Roman province which now forms most of Andalucia\, the home of the flamenco dance.\n\n\nBOOK TICKETS\n\n\n[AIGetTwitterFeeds ai_username='PianoWeekFest' ai_numberoftweets='3' ai_tweet_title='Your Title']\n\n
