This sonata could be interpreted as Beethoven beginning to come to terms with his impending deafness through the anguish and despair of the Adagio\, contrasting rage and calm\, and the ferocious cadences and rhythms of the finale. Sir Michael Tippett was an English composer who rose to prominence during and immediately after the Second World War. His Sonata No. 2 (1962) is a one-movement work of thirty-eight sections in eight different tempi. Liszt’s Funérailles has been often interpreted as a funeral speech for Liszt’s friend Chopin\, however Liszt said that it was rather meant as a tribute to three friends who suffered in the failed Hungarian uprising against the Hapsburg rule in 1848.
