When I launched PIANO WEEK in 2013, I didn't foresee it developing into a touring classical music enterprise quite so quickly; a piano festival with international residencies in Germany, Italy, China and the UK. It was a call from Anne Griffith, director of business development at Moreton Hall in late spring 2015, asking me to create a bespoke piano weekend for a group of talented young Chinese pianists visiting the UK, which changed the concept and fate of the entire festival and summer school. Since then, we have been invited to China twice as well as to Italy and Germany, alongside establishing our second UK residency at Rugby School. Accepting all these invitations has resulted in seven editions of PIANO WEEK in 2017, taking place between February and October across Europe and Asia.
Today, the festival as well as the summer school have become something of a cultural beacon, educating and inspiring music lovers regardless of their age or ability whilst offering the very best in classical music. Our faculty of concert pianists and world-renowned Guest Artists contribute enormously to PIANO WEEK’s unique environment, which you can enjoy either as an active participant or as an audience member.
If you are wondering whether or not to apply for a place at one of our international residencies, have a think not only about the festival's content but also the location. Perhaps a few days in Italy or a week in Beijing might appeal to you the most! With the unrivalled intensity of all our courses, a community of supportive and like-minded people and a string of public performances every day, I believe that PIANO WEEK is hard to beat.
For those of you who love listening to classical music, PIANO WEEK is a real treat. All our concerts are open to the public and you will be able to watch anything from the very first steps taken on stage by our participants, to lunchtime concerts and full evening recitals given by our outstanding concert pianists and world-famous Guest Artists.
It would be wonderful to see you at one or more of our residencies, whether you want to improve your pianistic skills, gain inspiration, see a particular concert or simply find out what it is all about. Become part of our touring international piano festival which, just like music, knows no bounds!
