Born in Hong Kong, Raymond Wui Man Yiu moved to Aberdeen, Scotland, in 2008 to attend the Aberdeen City Music School, where he studied piano with Peter Evans. During his time at ACMS, he made his concerto debut performing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 with the Meadows Chamber Orchestra in Edinburgh in 2010. Following his success as Aberdeen Young Musician of the Year, Raymond performed concertos by Schumann, Prokofiev, Rachmaninoff, and Grieg with various orchestras and gave recitals at festivals across Scotland, including the Aberdeen International Youth Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
In 2012, he was awarded a scholarship to study with Senior Professor Joan Havill at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where he earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees with Distinction. During his time as a student, Raymond has received accolades, including concerto prizes at the Springboard, Worthing, and Edinburgh festivals, as well as awards at competitions such as the Norah Sande Awards, Bromsgrove International Musicians' Competition, Christopher Duke International Piano Competition, Moray International Piano Competition, and Windsor International Piano Competition.
More recently, Raymond was on the Artist Diploma programme as scholar, studying with Gabriele Baldocci at Trinity Laban Conservatoire, where he won the John Longmire and Alfred Kitchin Competitions for his interpretations of Beethoven and Schumann. Recent highlights include winning the Carne Trust Chamber Music Competition as part of the Bolling Trio, exploring contemporary and jazz genres, and performing Beethoven's Emperor Concerto with the London Gay Symphony Orchestra. He gratefully acknowledges the support of the Felix Marr Award, Leathersellers' Company, Deena Shypitka Music Award, Dewar Arts Awards, Phyllis Simons Award, Guildhall School Trust, and Christine Brown Trust.
As an educator, Raymond is a visiting piano specialist at St Albans High School for Girls, Newton Prep, and St. Philomena's Catholic High School for Girls. His students have earned music scholarships from schools such as Wells Cathedral Music School, Alleyn's School, St Dunstan's College, Royal Grammar School (Dubai), and Kingsdale Foundation School. He is also conducting research on the teaching methods and music of Tobias Matthay, a pivotal figure in 20th-century English piano pedagogy.
